How They Found Each Other

Lana is from Powell River, British Columbia. Susan is from Waterloo, Ontario. Sharon is from Easley, South Carolina. How on earth, you might wonder, did the three of them ever even meet, much less write a book together?

Like many stories, this one has been filled with twists and turns. But you don’t need all that. Here are the highlights.

Susan and Sharon met at a Women’s Retreat in 2019, in North Carolina. Susan was the guest ministry. Sharon was part of the planning committee. And she was teaching a class on how to get started if you’ve never written anything before. Susan sat in on the class.

In 2020, as COVID took over the world, Susan began a monthly Zoom meeting on Spiritual Life Writing. First Lana joined. Then Sharon joined.

Susan and Lana got to work together at an online Nurturing Spirit Retreat in 2022. Susan was again the guest ministry. Lana was part of the planning committee. And she was leading a couple of the sessions. In fact, she was co-leading one with Susan. Sharon attended.

Things just continued to evolve from there, as they often do.

In early 2025, Susan was invited by a Canadian publisher—Creative Connex—to pen a workbook for writers. Initially, it was because the publisher was getting requests from pastors needing help with their spiritual memoirs.

But once Susan got her hands on it, it quickly expanded to be more inclusive—with respect to spiritual POVs, language for the sacred, writing experience, challenges, goals, and genres. And, knowing the level of effort required, she quickly invited Lana and Sharon to become her co-authors.

The Spiritual Life Writing Workbook: From Concept to Bookshelf is the result of their collaboration. But, of course, it’s not the end of the story. It’s just the beginning.

Calling themselves Spiritual Life Writers, they are now busy looking for anyone ready to share their sacred story in some form or other, and standing ready to help.
